Copyright law poses little problem for preparers of searchable text:
- who own, or represent the owner of, the content;
- who have written permission from the content owner;
- who as students stay within the fair use provisions of the law;
- who ensure that content they use is in the public domain.
Beyond these guidelines, social attitudes in favor of sharing come up against the
needs of those who create content for either reward or protection against
misappropriation. Copyright becomes a serious issue.
